Patrick Ovie AKUSU B.Sc, M.Sc, PhD.
Associate Professor

Born September 20, 1958 in Kano, Kano-State, and an indigene of Delta State form Uvwie Local Government Area. Obtained both BSc & MSc degrees in Physics from the University of Jos, Jos, Nigeria (1985 and 1992 respectively) and a PhD degree in Theoretical Solid State Physics from the Federal University of Technology, Minna in 2002, as well as many Training and Professional certificates.

Lectured in Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna (Asst. Lect.: 1992-1996), Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna (Lect. II to Snr Lect.:1996-2007), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria (Snr. Lect. to Assoc. Professor: 2008-2011).

Assumed duty as a Deputy Director, Nuclear Power Plant Development, Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, Abuja 2011-2015 and promoted Director, Nuclear Power Plant Development, Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, Abuja 2016.

Over the years, academic responsibilities held included: Academic adviser, Project and Seminar coordinator, Examination officer and Postgraduate programme coordinator. Furthermore, served in Academic Programme committee, Curriculum Harmonization Committee and Examination Malpractice Committee. Also served as Head of Physics Department.

Similarly, have many national and international responsibilities which include being the Nigeria Representative in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Technical Working Group on Nuclear Power Infrastructure (TWG-NPI), Nigeria Representative in the IAEA Technical Working Group on Nuclear Knowledge Management (TWG-NKM), IAEA Technical Cooperation (TC) Project Counterpart, NIR2008: Developing Nuclear Power Infrastructure for Education and Training and National Capacity for Radioactive Waste Management, IAEA TC Project Counterpart, NIR 2009: Building national capacity for optimal  and synergized management of nuclear power plant (NPP) construction stage as well as being the national coordinator, Implementation of Integrated Workplan (IWP) for Nigeria Nuclear Power Programme, amongst others.

Have been a Visiting Associate Professor to Veritas University, Abuja since 2015 and have actively participated in three (3) accreditation exercises for the Department of Physics.

Married with three (3) biological children and two (2) adopted children.

Currently a Veteran Golfer and loves good music.
