CJN COMMISSIONED ULTRAMODERN LAW FACULTY BUILDING AMIDST THRONG OF JURISTS AT VERITAS UNIVERSITY ABUJA

The ultramodern edifice which was christened, Justice Chike Idigbe Faculty of Law Building was erected to immortalize the foremost jurist, Justice Chukwunweike Idigbe whom Nigerian legal historians reckoned as one of the pillars of the Nigerian legal system. It was also an opportunity for the foundation laying of the Law Faculty Auditorium which when completed, will be 1000 capacity.

Speaking at the occasion, The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwola GCON, expressed his profound gratitude to Veritas University Abuja and PUNUKA attorneys and Solicitors, for their positive and direct interventions in the development of Law as a field of study in Nigeria which according to him, is worth emulating. Speaking at the ceremony, the ProChancellor of Veritas University Abuja, and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Reverend, Matthew Hassan Kukah, reiterated the vision of the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria (CBN) which birthed the foremost Catholic University in Nigeria “to have a university that work in tandem with the history of the time tested legacy of the Catholic church in the area of education, which ranges back to the 10th Century when Universities like Oxford, founded in 1096, University of Paris, founded in 1150, University of Cambridge, founded in 1209, and the University of Salamanca, founded in 1218.” According to Bishop Kukah, the church can boast of leading the world and showing the world, the path to go.

For the Vice Chancellor of Veritas University Abuja, Rev.Fr.Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, the commissioning of the Law Faculty Building is a culmination of efforts of many years which began upon his assumption of office in 2019 as the Vice Chancellor of Veritas University Abuja. Prof. Ichoku further stated that as a faith based University, Veritas University, Abuja is willing to comply with all laid down conditions as stipulated by the Council of Legal Education, in producing law graduates who will blaze the trail in both industry and the academia.
