No Funding, Sponsorship For Academic Staff Without Publications….VC

The Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku has told academic staff of the University that henceforth, the University will no longer promote, provide funds or sponsor Academic staff who do not publish in reputable journals.

In an opening remark at a workshop organized by the Directorate of Research, Publications and Linkages, the Vice Chancellor noted that though teaching is important, it pales in significance when compared with research and publications.

“No matter how well you perform in other areas, if you are not publishing, if you are not researching, there is a serious lacuna. Henceforth, Publishing and research are major criteria for promotion and funding. We must all rise up and meet the challenges of academic research” he said

The Workshop with the theme “The Current trends in the Global Research ecosystem: Positioning Veritas University for relevance, Impacts and Opportunities” drew participants from all the faculties of the University as well as non-academic staff with Post Graduate Degrees

The Acting Director of the Directorate of Research, Publications and Linkages, Dr Godwin Udourioh in a welcome remark presented a statistics of the various faculties and Departments in terms of their publications in world class journals like SCOPUS and Web of Science.

The Registrar of Patent Trademarks in the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, Barr. Jane Igwe delivered a paper on Patent Development and Filing where she took the participants through the rudiments of patenting their finding and inventions.

Papers were presented on “Understanding Globally Recognized Indexing databases (Scopus, Web of Science- SCI, SCIE, ESCI) and strategies for effective Scholarly publishing”; “Navigating Scopus Website”; and “Performance Evaluation of Academic Staff Scopus-Indexed publications by Faculties, Departments and Individual Lecturers”.

Others papers included “Horizon Europe Funding Architecture and Research Clusters”; “Practical Navigation of Funding and Tenders Portals for Proposal Identification”’ Building Competitive Consortia: Strategies for securing international Research Partners”
