The emergence of digital technologies has transformed the world in a way and manner never before imagined. The regular changes in the acquisition and use of these technologies continuously make demands on everyone to constantly acquire digital literacy and skills to remain relevant locally and globally. The need for digital literacy and skills especially for young Nigerians is an imperative. There is therefore the need to build digitally literate Nigerians who can contribute meaningfully to national development. This aligns with the vision of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). It also aligns with the National Digital Literacy Framework, 2023 which seeks ‘…to empower citizens with essential digital skills from basic to advanced competencies’. It is in that light that one welcomes with excitement the free digital skills training offered by the Veritas University, Abuja. The digital skills training is a project facilitated by the Innovation Grant Facility (IGF) under the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project of the Federal Ministry of Education. This Project is supported by the World Bank to digitally empower young Nigerians especially females, people with disability, the unemployed and those in disadvantaged situations. In this Project, Veritas University will train and certify 900 young Nigerians in identified digital skills within a four-month duration followed by two months of internship and mentoring.
