“2012 HARVEST OF DIVINE FAVOUR” CELEBRATED IN ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHAPLAINCY

The 2012 edition of the Harvest and Bazaar Celebrations titled: “Harvest of Divine Favour” took place in the Chaplaincy of St. John the Baptist on Sunday, February, 2012. The Chaplaincy Council decided that this year event should be low-keyed and so it was. However, it was fun-filled because for the first time, many worshippers came to know and appreciate what an American Auction system is, which was employed to dispose of all the items for the bazaar sales. While responding to the choice of the American Auction System, the Vice-Chairman of the Chaplaincy Council, Chief Mojisola Ladipo stated that this was to expose the parishioners to a new innovation and that “change was the only permanent thing”. This was corroborated by the words of the Chairman of the 2012 Harvest and Bazaar Planning Committee, Dr. Effiom E.Okoi who said that the change in method was necessary to avoid the Chaplaincy from being owed money that would be eventually termed as un-redeemed pledges or bad debts in the long-run. It was noticed that all the items auctioned at this year’s harvest and bazaar were paid for and the money collected cash. This was an improvement on last year’s event when a huge sum of money was being owed the Chaplaincy as un-redeemed pledges, he said. In his homily, the Chaplain encouraged Christians to be good givers for “God loves a cheerful giver” noting that givers don’t lack and that when we give and show kindness to our neighbours, God is willing to reward us as well and forgive us our sins for according to Fr. Okwara, “Charity covers multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).
