NUC visits to confirm VUNA Provisional Licence

Wednesday, September 28, 2011. The National Universities Commission, NUC, Committee on Monitoring of Private Universities, COMPU visited the Take-Off campus in Obehie, Abia State to review the provisional licence granted to the University on Wednesday, September 28 .

The five-member committee visit was to conduct visitation to private universities established in 2007 for the purpose of ascertaining their level of compliance with their provisional licences, with the objective of facilitating the confirmation of the licence.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor David I. Ker, OON  received the team  led by Alhaji Mohammad  Ndanusa who briefed the Vice-Chancellor on their mission to the University. Later, the team met with  the University Management including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar, University Librarian, Deans of Colleges, Dean of Student Affairs, and University Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor noted that Veritas University, which is the Catholic University of Nigeria is seen as a gift of the entire Catholic Community in Nigeria to the Nigerian nation and the world at large noting that concerted efforts were being made by the University Proprietors (the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) to move to  Bwari, Abuja, the permanent site  of the University. The Vice Chancellor assured the Team “that the necessary finance for the development is not an issue” stressing that " barring any other unforeseen event, the University will operate from its permanent site in the next academic session.”

The team conducted physical inspection of staff offices, the University Library, laboratories, lecture theater, classrooms and the University clinic.  The leader of the team expressed appreciation for the level of improvement  in the area of staff especially academic staff with PhDs having been a member of the team which visited the University in August 2010.
