DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR
Prof MATUR BERNARD MALAU
Bernard Malau Matur is the first Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Veritas University, Abuja. He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology in 1992 and Masters Degree in Applied Entomology and Parasitology in 1996 from the University of Jos. He further obtained his Doctorate Degree in Zoology at the University of Abuja in 2003.
Prof. Matur began his sojourn in the academia at the University of Abuja in 1997 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose steadily to the rank of an Associate Professor. He was a Visiting lecturer in Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma and is a Visiting Professor in IBB University, Lapai. He has held part-time lecturing positions at Imo State University and Ogun State University. His areas of specialty are Entomology, Parasitology, Epidemiology, Public Health/HIV-AIDS, Ecology and Biodiversity, Research Methodology and Bio-Statistics, Invertebrate/ Protozoology.
A relentless achiever, Prof. Matur has held several leadership positions, has been a recipient of several awards and is a member of many professional bodies. He was the Secretary General of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abuja Branch. He is also a member of Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN), Entomological Society of Nigeria (ESN), Biotechnology Association of Nigeria (BAN), American Society for Parasitology (ASP), Biomedical Research Association (BRA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (MEPA). He served as a Consultant to British Council in 2008, on the determination of the Flora and Fauna currently present at the proposed site of British embassy’s permanent site, Abuja, Nigeria, and as a Consultant to Right to Sight on Vision 2020:20 support Programme (Lymphatic Filariasis Entomological survey) in 2010.
Matur BM has authored several publications and delivered lectures both at national and international fora. He has published articles in international journals, presented conference papers and has authored several text books.
Matur joined Veritas University, Abuja as a Visiting Senior Lecturer in 2008 and was appointed Pioneer Acting Head of Department of Biological Sciences. He was elected Member of Council Representing Senate in 2011. By dint of hard work and dedication, Prof. Matur has attained the status of the first Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Veritas University, Abuja. Matur enjoys reading and researching, playing football and table tennis and swimming. He is happily married to Mrs. Rifkatu Umbule Matur, A staff of the Federal Character Commission, Abuja and has five children.
